John’s forecast was bolstered by the fact that Kyle would not have made such a fuss about a hopelessly trivial novelty act. In the end, Kyle’s whole team agreed that the legendary policeman would not have gone out of his way to dispatch experienced policemen unless there was a real threat to public safety. Suddenly, a disturbing aspect of the case emerged, bringing it back to the forefront but in a more gloomy light than before.

Surprisingly, it was Mr. Smith who was inspired. Kyle couldn’t hide his excitement at the prospect of reuniting with John, his former partner and closest buddy from high school. Smith was well aware that his new pet had been downcast, and it was apparent that the dog had been upset as a result of being separated from John. If Kyle discovered a possible crime scene, it was almost as if Kyle knew his old partner would rush over to get him out of a jam.
