The Suspicious Space
As they got closer to the tree, the Smiths were aware of a chunk of bark that was dangling from the tree. Kyle then started barking loudly. He then tiptoed towards the suspicious spot, grasping for the bark carefully and ripping it away as his pulse became more rapid. Now that the depression had been revealed, he looked into the gloomy recess, his eyes penetrating deeper into the darkness. He was startled and jumped backward. The thought occurred to him that he would have preferred to have discovered drugs instead of the frightening event that awaited him.
